Speaker: Colonel Ian Slazinik, PhD

Colonel Ian M. Slazinik is the Director of AFIT’s Digital Innovation and Integration Center of Excellence (DIICE) and an Assistant Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

DIICE directly supports Air Force Materiel Command’s (AFMC) Digital Materiel Management (DMM) goals to accelerate integrated capability delivery across the materiel lifecycle and functional disciplines. The DIICE team develops model-based digital solutions that enhance weapon system acquisition and sustainment across the AFMC enterprise in support of the warfighter.

Colonel Slazinik also serves as Director of the Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques Center of Excellence (STAT COE) and the Homeland Security Community of Best Practices (HS COBP). STAT COE advances the use of scientific test and analysis techniques to improve test and evaluation decision-making, while HS COBP promotes collaboration and best practices to strengthen homeland security efforts.

Through these leadership roles, Colonel Slazinik advances AFIT’s mission to provide defense-focused education, research, and innovative solutions supporting the Air Force and Department of Defense.

Col. Slazinik graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2003 with a degree in Political Science. Serving as a KC-135 Instructor Pilot at both Fairchild AFB and Kadena AB, he deployed 7 times in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM and was selected for Air Mobility Command’s premier leadership development program, PHOENIX Mobility. An accomplished air refueling planner and certified Contingency Response Element Commander, Col Slazinik has vast experience leading multifunctional teams in contingency response, command and control, and air refueling operations. He is also a senior pilot, having logged over 2900 hours.

Col. Slazinik has served in a variety of positions at the Squadron, Group, Wing, and Combatant Command.  He served as an Aircraft Strike Planner at USSTRATCOM J5 before commanding the 351st Air Refueling Squadron at RAF Mildenhall. In this position, he oversaw over 120 personnel performing over 2000 missions and led the most heavily tasked unit in USAFE with the most Priority 1 missions in the entire USAF. Upon graduating from his Ph.D. program with a concentration in supply chain management, Col Slazinik led the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Division of AFIT’s Operational Sciences Department in Graduate School of Engineering and Management.
