Margaret F. Pinnell, PhD

Interim Dean in the School of Engineering, University of Dayton

Dr. Margaret Pinnell is the Interim Dean in the School of Engineering at the University of Dayton and a tenured professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She also holds the Bernhard Schmidt Endowed Chair in Engineering Leadership.  Dr. Pinnell’s technical area of research is experimental mechanics of materials, and testing of surgical devices.  Additionally, she is deeply involved in K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research, outreach and engagement, and research and scholarship on community engaged learning, and faculty professional development.  Dr. Pinnell has over 60 refereed publications on K-12 STEM education, community engaged learning, and mechanical testing of materials.  Prior to coming to the School of Engineering, Dr. Pinnell worked at UDRI in the Structural Testing Lab, and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the Composite Materials Branch.
